  • 1 (1 pound) pizza dough ball, room temperature
  • 2 cups pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage (if using links, remove casings)
  • 1/2 red onion, sliced
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese

Place a pizza stone in a cold oven, then preheat to 425°F. In a medium skillet on medium heat, cook sausage, stirring to break up any very large pieces until it is just beginning to brown. Remove from heat and set aside. On a clean counter, roll out dough to completely fit a round or square standard pizza stone (for best results) or baking sheet. Dough should be rolled thin, ideally 1/8 of an inch thick. Let sit for 20 minutes at room temperature. Place on a floured pizza peel or the back side of a cookie sheet or baking sheet to help place onto hot pizza stone once assembled. If not using a pizza stone, place on a lightly oiled baking sheet. Top pizza with sauce evenly, but leave the far edges clean. Top with the mozzarella cheese, then sausage crumbles and onion. Sprinkle with the parmesan cheese. Bake for 45 minutes, until cheese is beginning to brown and crust is beginning to crisp. Times may vary depending on what baking sheet you are using. Remove from oven and let sit for 5 minutes before slicing.

Other topping options include mushrooms, olives, spinach or any of your favorite items!
