As summer’s last crops overlap with fall’s first harvests, our Produce Markets are a cornucopia of Northwest-grown fruits and veggies. That gave us an idea … Wouldn’t it be a fantastic time to celebrate all our Northwest products and producers?
So let the celebration begin – especially when it comes to those extra-special partnerships we have with small, local outfits like Tony’s Coffee in Bellingham, Twin Sisters Creamery in Ferndale, Farm Kitchen in Kingston, and so many more.
These relationships are special because they provide us the opportunity to offer unique, locally made foods not widely available while supporting growers and producers who are as passionate about good food as we are. We like to think of it as Our Northwest Table.
For two weeks, Sept. 11-24, we want to give some love to some of our favorite local foods. Our culinary demos will inspire pairings and meals that bring Northwest foods together on the same table. We’ll be sharing stories of the people behind the food. Some of our local partners will even visit our markets, where you’ll hopefully have the chance to say hello!
This week and next, I’ll be giving a few shout-outs to some of those same folks you’ll see in the markets. We hope you’ll support them just like you support our Town & Country Markets and Central Markets.

Farm Kitchen Bakery of Kingston – Shortbread Cookies
Farm Kitchen is a rustic-yet-elegant event and food-crafting space in Kingston, where cofounder Hollis (founder of the popular Bainbridge Bakers, now closed) makes some of the richest and most scrumptious shortbread cookies we’ve ever tasted. Visit our Bakeries and nibble a few today!

Tsue Chong Company of Seattle – Rose Fresh Noodles
From its 1917 origins on South Jackson Street in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District (CID), Tsue Chong Co., which makes noodles and fortune cookies, has flourished to become a major provider of authentic Asian noodles and cookies in the Pacific Northwest. This year, into the family’s fourth generation and having moved to a 38,000-square-foot building in the same district, Tsue Chong was sold to the Cheng family. The Chengs once owned Golden Pheasant Foods in the CID. The two were “friendly competitors” according to press coverage last month and a member of the original family stated the Rose brand is in good hands. We’re glad about that!
They make 17 different lines of noodle products from the same four basic ingredients – flour, salt, water and eggs. Their gourmet Rose noodles are always packaged fresh and designed to be just as flexible in the kitchen as you are.

Seattle Bagel Bakery of Seattle – Bagels!
This local icon creates traditional, New York-style, kettle-boiled bagels with from locally sourced grains. Not only are their bagels great, but we appreciate that this company takes pride in building meaningful, local relationships with their bakers and the wheat farmers in eastern Washington with whom they trade. They don’t take shortcuts and they don’t mass produce. Instead, they make their bagels fresh daily – from scratch and topped individually by hand.

Lattebusche Piave Vecchio: This classic Italian table cheese often is forgotten when building cheese plates, yet it’s one of my favorites.
It pairs so nicely with whatever you’re serving. Whether your favorite beverage is a red wine, white wine, or a frosty amber ale, Piave promises to play nice. Especially this time of year, when the new crop of apples starts coming in. With its sweet nuttiness, often likened to the other famous Italian cheese, Parmigiano-Reggiano, Piave might just become your new favorite cheese plate MVP.
