Green Bean, Beef and Ginger Stir-Fry

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari
  • 4 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili garlic sauce
  • 2 cups chicken or beef broth
  • 3 teaspoons dark sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons oil for stir frying, divided
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons minced peeled fresh ginger
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 pound boneless sirloin steak, cut into 1/4-inch strips
  • 1 pound green beans, cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into strips
  • 4 green onions, sliced into 2-inch pieces
  • 2 cups hot cooked rice


Combine first six ingredients in a small bowl, stirring well with a whisk. Set aside. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add green onions, ginger and garlic and sauté for 1 minute. Add beef and sauté for 4 minutes or until browned. Remove from pan.

Add remaining tablespoon of oil and sauté beans for 3 minutes. Add bell pepper and green onion and sauté for 1 minute. Return beef mixture to pan and stir in broth mixture. Bring to a boil and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly until thickened. Serve over hot rice.
