Chinese-Style Three-Bean Chili

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder (in Asian section or Bulk Foods)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pound boneless pork ribs, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 bunch green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 fresh jalapeño chili, seeded and minced
  • 2 teaspoons minced ginger  
  • 2 tablespoons prepared black bean sauce
  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can kidney beans
  • 1 (14.5-ounce) can pinto beans
  • 1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes

Directions

Mix cornstarch, chili powder, five-spice powder and salt.  Add pork and mix to coat. Fry pork in oil until very browned. Add remaining ingredients and simmer until pork is tender, about 25 minutes.
