Baked Cheddar Apple Melts

  • 8 slices whole wheat sandwich bread
  • 1/2 stick (4 tablespoons) butter, softened
  • 1/2 pound grated cheddar cheese
  • 2 apples, cored and very thinly sliced


Preheat oven to 400°F.
Lay 4 slices of bread on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Spread one side of each slice with butter.
Turn slices over, buttered side down.
Top each slice with about 1/8 of cheese, then 1/4 of apple, then another 1/8 of cheese.
Top with remaining bread slices.
Spread tops of sandwiches with butter.
Bake until cheese has melted, about 10 minutes. Serve warm.
