Hempler’s is a family-owned business in Ferndale, Wash., just north of Bellingham – led by the company’s second and third generations Dick and Kestin Hempler, respectively. It’s celebrating its 80th birthday this year (2014)!
They’ve been making a variety of high-quality hams, bacon and sausage since 1934. Their products include nitrite-free choices made with Country Natural Beef. They choose their meat thoughtfully and, as much as possible, they procure meat locally and from sustainable sources. For example, they partner with Three Sisters farm in Oak Harbor, Wash.
Their products actually originated in the 1800s in the Hempler family sausage kitchen in Borken, Germany. Hans Hempler came to the United States in 1928, returned to Germany to marry Emmy Hoff, and then returned to Whatcom County and purchased B.B. Meat and Sausage Co. Hans’s son, Richard, is now president of the company.
Hempler’s products have won 35 awards from the Northwest Meat Processors since 1985, including the Best of Show (the association covers Washington, Oregon, and Idaho).
The entire Hempler collection of delicious foods are completely free of glutens and MSG, and are made with care using the Hempler tradition of slowly curing, cooking and smoking naturally over real hardwoods.
